MAINZmentoring provides a modular, one-year mentoring program designed specifically for PhD candidates of MPGC, SFB1551, PRISMA++, Spin+X and QUIP.

The program empowers you to actively and strategically shape your professional future with personalized guidance, practical tools, and a strong network.

As an Early Career Researcher, you may find yourself at a pivotal point in your career and wondering:

  • What’s next?
  • Where do I want work – in academia, industry, the public sector, or elsewhere?
  • What kind of position do I want to have?

Mentoring is a structured, personalized support program designed to help you grow. Throughout the program you will receive guidance and support from program coordinators, trainers, and mentors, who provide valuable insight and perspectives, tailored to your (future) career goals.

To ensure you are well prepared to begin your tandem relationship with your mentor, we will reflect on your competencies and preferences in individual coaching sessions. Together with your mentor, you will have the opportunity to reflect on your strengths, sharpen your career goals, and define concrete next steps for your professional future. You will benefit from your mentor’s experience and professional feedback while gaining fresh perspectives on potential career paths and fields.

Key questions you can explore with your mentor

  • How well does my application profile align with with the requirements of a job I am interested in?
  • What does day-to-day work look like in the field I am considering?
  • Which career paths are available to me and which ones are realistic?
  • How can I connect with relevant people and build a strong professional network?

Additional program benefits

  • Workshops on job‑application strategies and professional personality development.
  • Structured group meetings with fellow PhD candidates for peer exchange, mutual support, and collaborative problem‑solving.

MAINZmentoring is sponsored by MPGC, SFB 1551, PRISMA++, Spin+X, and QUIP. Admission is open to (associated) members of these programs and participation is free of charge.

New groups start on a regular basis.
